Osteopathy is a system of medicine with a distinct worldview in which Osteopathic philosophy and treatment are applied to standard biomedical care. There is a strong emphasis on the inter–relationship of the body’s nerves, muscles, bones, connective tissue and organ systems. An Osteopath by manual adjustments of the spine relieves pressure on the nerves which eases pain. Osteopathic medicine was developed as a unique and proprietary treatment method in the early 19th century by Dr. Andrew Tailor still in the U.S.A. It was a distinct alternative to the then existing conventional medical practice for treating pain related problems. These techniques have since then moved through stages of discovery, development, refinement and have cured and helped millions of patients. Dr. K. M. Modi is one of the foremost exponents of osteopathy in India. He applies the philosophy of ‘treating the whole person’ to the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury using conventional medical practice as well as manual therapy. Osteopathic Principles
These are held to be empirical laws by Osteopaths – not contradictions to orthodox medical principles, they constitute the underpinnings of the osteopathic perspective on health and disease. Osteopathy is successful in treating cervical spondylosis, neck and upper back pain, brachial neuralgia, tennis elbow, carpel tunnel syndrome, dorsal pain, low back pain, sciatica, slip disc, dysmennorhea, knee arthiritis and ankle joint pains. Among Dr. K. M. Modi’s patients have been Jagjivan Ram, Durga Khote, M F Husain, Vinod Khanna, Kabir and Pooja Bedi, Manmohan Desai, Viren Shah, Parmeshwar Godrej, Dilip Vengsarkar, and Ajay Devgan amongst others. |
